2019 Labour Conference Reports
Pavilion Labour sent its full delegation of 13 representatives to Labour Conference 2019, or #Lab19.
Representing the whole of Brighton Pavilion Constituency Labour Party were: Juan Baeza (Preston Park Branch), Leonie Barua (Preston Park), Elaine Bewley (Hanover & Elm Grove), Amanda Evans (St Peter’s & North Laine), Ty Galvin (Hanover & Elm Grove), Sandy Kennedy (Regency), Val Knight (Hollingdean & Stanmer), Lewis Kranat (Preston Park), Theresa Mackey (Preston Park), Renato Marques (youth delegate, St Peter’s & North Laine), Katie McMurray (women’s delegate, Hollingbury & Patcham), Claire Wadey (Withdean) and Tim Wilkinson (Regency).
Leonie, Elaine, Amanda, Claire and Tim had experience to draw upon as delegates to 2017 Labour Conference and, for Claire, this was her sixth time as a conference delegate. Katie had been our 2019 Women’s Conference delegate and others had experience from union or professional conferences to draw upon, but the scale of Labour Conference, which was attended by 10,000+ visitors over the week, was a brand new experience.
You can find the written reports provided by our delegates by clicking the links below. Where (and when) available, links to film of Pavilion Labour delegates speaking at #Lab19 and of the verbal reports given by our delegates to the October and January meetings of the General Committee will also be provided.
Don’t forget that you can also find our blogs posted during #Lab19 as follows:
- Welcome #Lab19 to Brighton! – posted 20/09/19 – our Labour Conference preview has details of Pavilion Labour’s resolution on trans equality and rule change proposed to #Lab19 and the reactions of Conference Arrangements Committee (CAC)
- #Lab19 references back – posted 22/09/19 – a summary of the references back proposed by Pavilion Labour at #Lab19 giving readers a hint of some CAC shenanigans
- Pankhurst Flats Fundraiser – posted 29/09/19 – our thank you to everyone who donated to our collection at #Lab19
This year our delegates joined together to produce a joint report, which you can read here. It includes the report by our BAME delegate, Leonie Barua, which you can read here. Thanks to Val Knight and Elaine Bewley for editing the joint report, which was written with Leonie Barua, Ty Galvin, Lewis Kranat and Theresa Mackey, with additional personal experiences and short observations provided by delegates Juan Baeza and Claire Wadey. You can read Juan’s comments here and Claire’s comments here.
Separate reports have also been provided by Sandy Kennedy – focussing on the ethical foreign policy issues which had been one of our party’s concerns, and Theresa Mackey, whose report considers concerns of austerity, poverty and inequality. You can read Sandy’s report here and Theresa’s report here.
Thanks to all our delegates who did a great job representing Pavilion Labour at 2019 Labour Conference, as well as our stall volunteers who boosted our fundraising. The party stall is always a big part of our conference when Labour conference is in Brighton.
